Better than the original Madagascar July 19, 2010 LANCE R LINDLEY (Yokosuka, Japan) I wasn't a big fan of the first Madagascar, so I wasn't in a hurry to watch the sequel. I finally rented it last night, and was really pleasantly surprised to find that it's funnier than the first one by a long shot. The writers recognized that the side characters (penguins, monkeys, lemurs) were more fun than the main four and gave them more screen time to great effect. They also didn't OVERDO that, which is what often happens. The result is some very funny scenes with King Julien, Skipper, Africa Phil and Mort that don't wear out those characters' welcome, and which serve as nice breaks from the main "heartful" story line of big four -- which isn't all that bad. My sons and I laughed out loud several times during this movie, which I don't remember happening at all during Madagascar 1. New side characters like Moto Moto (voiced perfectly by Will i Am of the Blackeyed Peas) now add to the fun. Definitely worth a look, and I'm actually buying now that I've seen it.

The movie came in good time. There was no visible scarthes on it. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Just loved it February 15, 2010 M. Welch (DearbornHghts,Mi) This movie is soo funny.. it kept my kids as well as myself entertained through the entire movie.. a wonderful addition to family night fun.
Who says a penguin can't fly? February 12, 2010 Jade Sable (Leesport, PA) The dreaded sequels. They can hit or miss. This one is a definite hit.
Family movies that can keep my kids mesmerized are always worth 5 stars to me. I was a little disappointed with the new remixes of 'I like to move it, move it' But the rest of the songs are quite catchy. This DVD has been played so many times my 3 year old is beginning to memorize the songs.
The voice talents of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Sacha Baron Cohen and the late great Bernie Mac make the humor in the movie delightful. And the hilarious Dad and son dance at the end is quite memorable. As always the penguins are cunning and cute, and my beloved lemurs are underrated. At least the monkeys got a few good spots in the limelight.
But all in all this was an enjoyable movie but bittersweet being one of the last for Bernie Mac.
Granddaughter "Approved" February 7, 2010 M. Grochowalski I purchased this for our granddaughter's DVD collection. She really enjoyed watching it the first time and enjoys it just as much each time she watches it.
